How Lionfish Advertising Began

SOUTHWEST ISBDC HELPS LIONFISH MARKETING GROUP THRIVE

Prior to walking through the doors of the Southwest ISBDC, Sarah Fortune had already achieved great success in television journalism and corporate marketing. Several of her news segments aired internationally. For one project, she developed a corporate marketing strategy that resulted in a seven-figure revenue increase in the program’s first year. Fortune was being asked to consult for companies throughout the region in her spare time.

This is how Lionfish Marketing Group came into being. Fortune named her company after an invasive species of fish that is thriving around the globe. Thriving is exactly what she wants her clients to do.

The first step in launching her company was meeting with Southwest ISBDC Business Advisor, Pete Sabella. Together, they completed a feasibility study, SWOT analysis, and formed a five-year growth plan. Sabella also connected Fortune with Joe Ellsworth, a marketing consultant for some of the world’s most renowned brands. Now, four years later, Lionfish Marketing employs the most talented creatives in the industry and is still growing. The firm works mostly with national brands and has a handful of global clients. Sabella and Ellsworth still consult with Fortune on a regular basis. Most recently, Fortune met with them to discuss changing growth strategies and to set new goals for Lionfish Marketing’s promising future.

“If I can do it you can do it,” Fortune says. She encourages those with an entrepreneurial spirit to take the leap. “I am not fearless, but action conquers fear. So, I give it to God and I show up, over and over again.”

The Southwest ISBDC is hosted by the Southwest Indiana Chamber and provides one-on-one business advising for entrepreneurs and small business in eight counties throughout Southwest Indiana.
